The Devil Wears Prada was a light, surprisingly fun and entertaining read. The characters in the book are likeable and fairly realistic. I consider this a light read because I didn’t get the sad feeling I get many times when I finish a book. Sad because it’s over, there is no more, how can there not be more – I’m not done being mentally drawn in to the characters’ world and don’t feel ready to give them up! I liked the look into the high fashion industry this book presented. It is not something I have ever been terribly interested in or known much about. Now don’t mis-interpret this, I like being fashionable – but the world in The Devil is a whole different ball game. It is the world of $2000 Gucci pants and $1000 Jimmy Choo shoes. Side note – after reading the book I’m sure I need a pair of those shoes! The real focus of the book is the crazy, harsh fashion guru magazine editor boss that the main character Andrea becomes an assistant for – but it’s all the behind the scenes fashion world that you see thru Andrea’s eyes that makes the book fun. I didn’t feel a lot of build up with the story. The book seemed to go on for some time just talking about the day to day activities without really reaching towards an obvious goal. Overall though an enjoyable book which I would recommend for a casual, entertaining read.

DC Vacation Recap
Sunday, May 28th, 2006I really meant to do this sooner, but what can I say… I just haven’t! We had a great time on our vacation to northern VA/Washington DC area. It was nice to be in the area again and visit some favorite spots there. Here is a recap of the trip.
Thursday May 18
- Flew out to Dulles
- Spent the afternoon driving around Reston, Herndon and Ashburn. Looked at places we use to live and shop and eat. It was nice but nothing remarkable. We also went to Leesburg and looked around at a few of the shops. Someday I would like to do the Ghost Tour there.
Friday May 19
- By far my favorite day of vacation!
- Went into DC on the metro and spent all day going to various Smithsonian museums, walking around the national, mall and National Gallery of Art. Brian got a great birthday present for me at the Gallery of Art, the afore mentioned beautiful reproduction of Lord Fredric Leighton’s Flaming June. We just received it via FedEx this weekend, have to decide where to hang it. (can you believe Timmay!! has referred to this painting as some fairy chic? lol)
- After we got tired of walking so much we hoped back on the metro to Pentagon City mall. As you all know, I love shopping, so I had a great time here as well.
Saturday May 20
- Saw The DaVinci Code movie. I was rather disappointed. I enjoyed the book, it was entertaining and I even re-read it recently so I could remember all the details for when the movie came out. While I understand movies can’t be exactly like the book, I think to much was changed. I don’t think the movie accurately captured the characters. Especially Silas. Silas has a pure heart and good intentions, he was just dealt a bad hand in life which he did overcome – but he was portrayed as scary and evil.
- We then spent the afternoon hanging out with Carlos and his family celebrating his graduation, the event that inspired our trip out east. There was tons of fabulous home cooked food. I had a great time visiting with his family and friends hanging out in his charming McClean condo.
Sunday May 21
- This was a fairly slow day but enjoyable non the less. We moved to a hotel in Alexandria. I love Alexandria because it is right along the river.
- Went to the Smithsonian National Zoo. It was neat to see the much publicized pandas, but the rest of the zoo was just ok.
- After the zoo, rode the metro down to China Town. China town was so small! We were there for a very short amount of time.
- This evening we met Carlos and John for dinner at a Thai restaurant in Alexandria. It was a really enjoyable dinner. Great company and food.
Monday May 22
- Got all packed up and ready to head home.
- Got in a bit more shopping at Tysons Corner mall.
- Went to the Smithsonian Air & Space Annex in Dulles. This place is amazing! There are so many different air crafts and space crafts on display. They are the real life crafts, no fake replicas here. We saw a really awesome iMax movie about the Space Station. There were several books in the gift shop that are now going on my reading list. I would highly recommend a visit here to anyone who can make it.
- In the late afternoon we headed back to the airport and made it safely back home where the first we did was make a stop at the Frontier so I could get some chile!
28? How did this happen?
Thursday, May 25th, 2006Twenty eight years old today! Should I feel old yet? I don’t think I feel old so much as lacking in things I would have liked to accomplish by this ripe old age. Oh well, life is good and full of plenty of other things to accomplish. I plan to drag my birthday celebrations out over the weekend. Really I think the celebrating started when Brian purchased a long desired, beautifully framed reproduction of Flaming June for me at the National Gallery of Art. Yay! Happy birthday to me!
Vacation Rocks
Saturday, May 20th, 2006Yay vacation! We are having a great time. Food, fun, shopping, museums, pandas…. As a matter of fact, I have to get back out there right now for more relaxation!
I Refuse
Wednesday, May 17th, 2006I refuse to be brought down by others negativity. So not worth my time or frustration.
Life is good.
Writers Block?
Monday, May 15th, 2006I haven’t been much in the mood to post anything here. Everything is good, just haven’t felt like writing for some reason. There have been a few things on my mind, but when I’ve composed posts in my mind about them – they just don’t seem right for here. I’ve also been thinking about adding two new categories here. One for book reviews, which I’ve been wanting to do for sometime and haven’t gotten around to; and a second for product reviews, my thoughts about products that are particularly useful/impressive/recommendable – or not. Look for those coming soon once I get it together here.
Exciting future events – two vacations coming up! Going to DC later this week and Vegas next month. I will post pictures and tell you all about it.

Podcasts and Prima Donna Manatees
Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006Last night was my first late night shift at work, working till midnight. It actually wasn’t that bad. The flow of work was pretty light so I ended up with some free time. What really helped my night pass, was some podcasts that I had downloaded. I haven’t actively listened to podcasts really before, yesterday I downloaded two about WoW and I wish I had had more with me. I went home and subscribed to a podcast via iTunes pod cast directory, something I didn’t know was there. Now I have more than enough WoW oriented podcasts to last thru the night. I love that music from the game is included in the podcasts. At least if I can’t be at home playing my nerdy game at night I can be hearing it. LOL I need to do some more podcast browsing though for when I get tired of these WoW ones. Any of you listen to ones you think I might enjoy?
Now about these prima donna manatees. I actually saw an episode of South Park that I liked! Not that I’ve watched a ton of South Park, but this episode had manatees and thus it was fabulous. The manatees worked for a tv network in a think tank. They were responsible for coming up with all of the ideas for the network’s shows. The manatees would swim around and put random balls labeled with different words into a machine, which in turn would become the basis for a show. If at any point the balls in the think tank were messed with, the manatees would stop working. Their strike caused them to be referred to as prima donna manatees. I am doing a terrible job of summarizing the show, I’m sure you South Park fans out there could do a much better job and definitely feel free, but I thoroughly enjoyed the manatees!
Message in a Bottle
Monday, May 1st, 2006I’m being hit by a giant wave! I love you.
